THE SIGNS
OF THE
TIMES

You have a saying that goes,

Red sky at night,
sailor’s delight;

Red sky at morning,
sailors take warning.

You find it easy enough to forecast the weather...

Why can’t you read the signs of the times?

— Jesus of Nazareth

To See, and to Know.

Was the 2020 Pandemic with accompanying Global Lockdown just another chapter in world history? Was it just a "bad" situation—or the forewarning of a more "evil" situation to come?

The question stands: Can we see & know the signs of the times? Can we say with certainty, "Yes, the event of 2020 warns of pending, greater misfortune"?

The Bible contains examples of God giving clear warnings in order for us to avoid danger. Some warnings may begin with the wisdom of a gut feeling & intuition as in the first example below in the Book of Genesis. Most warnings are visible & physical, and this is because God is not willing for any to perish, but is willing for all to come to repentance.

Examples of Signs & Warnings in Advance of Greater Danger

____________ 1 ____________

Genesis 31

While Jacob lived in the land of Haran, he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what belonged to our father has Jacob made all his wealth.” And Jacob saw the attitude of Laban, and behold, it was not friendly toward him as it had been before. Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of Israel, and I will be with you.” So Jacob fled with all that he had.

____________ 2 ____________

Exodus 5, 6

Moses came and said to Pharaoh, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: Let My people go."

So the same day, Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters over Israel, saying, “You are no longer to give the people of Israel straw to make bricks as previously; have them go and gather straw for themselves. But you shall impose on Israel the quota of bricks which they were making before; you are not to reduce any of it... Let the labor be heavier on the men." Moreover, the foremen of the sons of Israel were beaten and asked, “Why have you not completed your required task of making bricks either yesterday or today, as before?”

And the Hebrew foremen saw that they were in an evil situation.

God spoke further to Moses and said, "I am the Lord, and I will bring you out, and I will rescue you. I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments."

____________ 3 ____________

Matthew 24

The disciples came to Jesus privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

And Jesus answered and said to them... “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: as soon as its branch has become tender and sprouts its leaves, you know that summer is near; so you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door.

For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away."

The evidence presented by the occasion & fallout of the 2020 Pandemic & Global Lockdown—with all governments in agreement for the first time in human history—points to the certainty that 2020 was a sign & warning that we are in a moment in time similar to when:

"John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying:
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Matthew 3

This is the good news — This is the blessing.

We are being given a chance to escape.

How to Escape Judgement

Recall from the first example above in the Book of Genesis...

Jacob saw the signs of the times,

he heard the Word of the LORD,

and he fled to God his Savior.

The Gospel of John, Including the Portion of John 3:16

Jesus responded and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, You must be born again.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. The one who believes in Him is not judged; the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God."

_______

John the Baptizer replied, “The one who believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
